About Desarae
I let go.
I came back to myself.
I’m Desarae. My life has been messy, painful, hilarious, beautiful, and nothing like I expected.
Sobriety, healing, and a whole lot of growing taught me to create, connect, and follow what comes next without losing myself along the way.
My Story
Finding Home
Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, Desarae Legros moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 10 years ago for work and found home in the peace of the mountains right outside of the city. What started as a career move became the place where she built her life and eventually, a community of more than 1.4 million people.
Desarae spent her entire career in the restaurant industry, working her way up from dishwasher to managing owner. Food has always been one of her greatest passions. It’s how she connects with people, creates, and shows love. When an injury forced her to leave the industry and left her immobile, she truly thought her career was over. Losing such a meaningful part of her identity sent her into a deep depression in which she coped with alcohol.
As a lifelong complex post-traumatic stress disorder survivor, Desarae has openly struggled with her mental health, while also living with chronic physical pain from the ankle injury that left her unable to walk. There were times when simply getting through the day felt like an accomplishment. But somewhere in all of that, she found a strength she forgot was there.
On September 8, 2024, Desarae made the decision to get sober from alcohol and take her life back. Sobriety became so much more than putting down a drink. It became the beginning of learning how to truly care for herself, heal the parts of herself that had been hurting for years, and believe that her life could still become something beautiful. The bravest decision she made other than getting sober was to share her raw journey with the world on her social media pages.

Rebuilding From Within
She began pushing herself physically, slowly rebuilding her strength and mobility while learning how to manage her chronic pain. She also changed the way she fueled her body. Through a calorie deficit, she has lost 140 pounds, and along the way discovered just how deeply nutrition can affect both physical and mental health.
That journey inspired Desarae to become a certified nutrition coach, with a passion for helping others understand that nourishing the body isn’t about punishment or perfection. It’s about learning how to fuel the body in a way that supports the whole person: body, mind, spirit, and soul.
Six years ago, Desarae began creating content under Cooking Comedy Chaos. What started primarily as recipes and cooking content grew into a community of more than 1.4 million followers. But eventually, she realized she wanted to share more than food.
She wanted to share the real stuff.
The healing. The hard conversations. The laughter. The setbacks. The victories. The parts of life that don’t always make it onto a highlight reel.

Sharing the Real Stuff
Through her platform, Desarae openly shares her sobriety, weight loss, mental health, healing, self-love, nutrition, and the reality of rebuilding a life after feeling like so much had been taken away. By sharing her own experiences openly and authentically, she has inspired people in her community to explore trauma-based therapy, begin their own sobriety journeys, take back control of their health, and start choosing self-love.
Her story has become a reminder that sometimes seeing someone else take that first step gives us permission to take ours.
Sometimes healing starts with realizing we’re not alone.
That’s the community Desarae has created.
A genuine place where people can laugh together, cry together, celebrate each other’s wins, talk about the hard stuff, and remind each other that survival is strength. A place where people can begin healing the parts of themselves that others hurt, learn to love who they were, who they are, and who they’re becoming, and grow without ever having to abandon themselves along the way.
Desarae is a wife, mom, fur mama, chef, comedian, content creator, motivational speaker, and certified nutrition coach. She’s also apparently the co-host of Fancy Coffee Time with Chubby Cheeks the cat, who has made it very clear that she has no intention of being left out of the family business.
Because Desarae has learned that healing doesn’t mean forgetting where you’ve been. It means taking everything you’ve survived and using it to build something that helps someone else keep going.

“The purpose behind the pain will always be our power.” — Desarae Legros
Why I’m Here
My Mission
Helping people heal, embrace imperfection, and love every version of themselves.
My mission is to create a genuine space where people can pull up a chair exactly as they are and know they don’t have to be perfect to be worthy of becoming the best version of themselves. I believe you can heal and still laugh. You can grow without being ashamed of who you used to be. And you can learn to love yourself while you’re still figuring life out.
Through food, comedy, coffee, honest conversations, nutrition, and real life, I want to help people learn how to truly care for themselves, from fueling their bodies in ways that support their physical and mental health to finding the courage to heal, grow, and believe in themselves again.
No perfection. Just authenticity, connection, self love, and the freedom to become who you’re meant to be without losing who you already are. Because becoming your best self shouldn’t mean becoming somebody else. It should mean learning to love who you were, who you are, and who you’re becoming. Because every version of you deserves that.
No perfection required
